How to change login screen theme

Sat May 19, 2012 9:43 pm
Hi all,

I am trying to change the login screen theme in System Settings. I chose "Get New Themes" and installed some of them. But they do not show up in the Theme-list.

Any ideas?

(just installed Kubuntu 12.04)

There is some unobviousness in this settings modules. Only root can set login themes, but the module allows to view and select themes even when you're not root. The themes you're installing are installed to your user's directory, so root still doesn't have the new themes. So, run System Settings as root and reinstall the themes you want again. After that, you can select the theme either as user or as root.

P.S. I think the developers should show a message describing this problem when user tries to use theme which is unavailiable from root.
