Desktop effects could not be loaded

Sat Aug 11, 2012 7:17 pm
I tried adding some desktop effects, such as blur but I just get an error saying that the blur effect requires OpenGL... Does anyone know how to fix this? Also, I'm using arch linux i686 version

If setting the above fails, please mention what graphics card and driver you are using .

I've gone there and the default was XRender and I changed it to OpenGL. Everything starts to get really laggy and I still get an error saying "___ requires OpenGL". I'm trying to get the blur effect btw... Also, I'm using nvidia

Are you using the proprietary Nvidia driver, or the open source Nouveau driver? The proprietary Nvidia driver is known to perform and handle the cards much better.

Also, can you please provide the output of the following command?
Code: Select all
glxinfo | grep -i direct

I get
Code: Select all
bash: glxinfo: command not found

when I do that
I don't have a nvidia driver, or noveau driver, how can I get one?
