Hi,
Is there a way to make a standard desktop applet appear on demand? World Clock, for instance: what if I don't want it to sit right on the desktop at all times? |

you could place it in the system tray with visibility = hidden
depending on your needs you could place it onto a different virt desktop and then switch when you need to see/use it you could place it in a new panel set to auto hide |

(1) Sounds interesting. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to put the World Clock into the tray. (2) A plasma appears on all the virtual desktops. Is there a way to limit it to a particular desktop? (3) The panel option tried and found not quite satisfactory. |

1) was stupid of me - wrote faster than I thought, it was early and hadn't any caffeine
2) systemsettings -> workspace behavior -> virtual desktops -> different widgets for each desktop |

You could also use the widget dashboard (accessible via Ctrl + F12) which can be configured to be independent of your desktop widget.

Can the plasmoid be started (and killed) via a command (in a script)?
If so the this can be done using two scripts. The first to start the plasmoid (world clock). The second, autostarted and loaded into the sys_tray to start / kill the first script. |

Plasma applets all run as part of the same process, and so therefore cannot be killed or started like regular processes. You could use the plasma-windowed application to run a separate container for the applet though if you wanted to follow that approach.
