Hi,
I updated KDE today to the last version (kdelibs5-dev:amd64 4:4.10.2-0ubuntu2.2; Kubuntu 13.04) and since then the external screen of my laptop shows nothing using either VGA or HDMI cable (the screen is Acer S273HL LCD). The screen does show up when Grub and then Kubuntu load up, but it turns black after logging in. Anyone else encountered it? any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Roey |

kms, fails with at least the radeon driver and a pretty dated r100 chip here (not very important to me so i didn't check on)
Not KDE related, esp. not if it happens during the boot process (usually when kms kicks in) - the "dated" thing that does this for me won't run KDE (boots from USB1.1 - takes two minutes until fluxbox is up and 30 seconds for xterm, ie. moving data from USB to RAM is too expensive) Unfortunately radeon.modeset=0 will caus the kernel module to fail loading altogether (here) so you cannot even deactivate kms to keep the screen enabled. |

If it fails out when logging in but still functions at the login screen (prior to first login) this indicates that KScreen may be disabling the display.
Please make sure it is enabled - you can access the KScreen settings by running "kcmshell4 kscreen".

Well I managed to bypass it for now by using a VGA cable rather than an HDMI. VGA gives no prob.
I cannot check Kscreen configuration because as soon as I plug in the HDMI cable also the laptop screen goes black. |

Can you take a look for a folder named 'kscreen' in ~/.kde4/share/apps and post the contents of it please?
Also, take a look for a ~/.kde4/share/config/kscreenrc and post the content of that file as well please.

Can you provide the contents of those files if possible?
They likely contain the information needed to identify your various configurations and the screens which form part of it (along with their settings).

Not a problem. Would be interesting to know what packages the update affected (ie. was it a KDE or a X bug).
