While I'm glad that I've got KDE working again I now get a distinct GTK feel on my T61 with funny lines in all KDE apps while my desktop looks fine. Here the top of Dolphin:
![]() And here a rather edgy krunner which is totally different to my desktop where it is all nice and round: ![]() First I went through systemsettings on both machines to make sure settings are the same. I then checked dpkg -l|grep -i -e oxygen -e kde -e qt|sort > kde.list on both machines and ran them through kdiff, installed the stuff that was on the desktop but not on the laptop but no joy. Then I created a test user, logged into KDE and I still got this **** GTK style look. Now at my wits' end - any ideas are most welcome!

looks like systemsettings -> app appearance -> style
if I try CDE or Motif I get something similar Maybe there's something amiss with you Oxygen packages I think it's kdebase4-workspace-liboxygenstyle in openSUSE with files /usr/lib64/kde4/plugins/styles/oxygen.so /usr/lib64/liboxygenstyle.so.4, /usr/lib64/liboxygenstyle.so.4.12.0 |

I've got oxygen but changing it to qt-curve didn't make any difference.

does any change there make a difference ? if not maybe there's an installation error like packages from different releases. any other KDE issues?

Nope, as far as I can tell the installs on the laptop and on the desktop are exactly the same. However, with one it works while the other looks odd.
I'll try copying ~/kde from the desktop to the laptop. EDIT: Tried it but no improvement. What to do next? It obviously is nothing to do with the settings, ergo it must be differing packages. Do I really have to go through every single one? NOOOOO....

Let me try bcooksley's default reply: Does it work as a new user?
![]() Did you try changing the style in qtconfig-qt4 too? Greetings! Sven
I'm working on the KDevelop IDE.

qtconfig-qt4!!! That was it!!! Never heard of it but what a lifesaver, Sven. Thanks a million! Marking this as solved.

I would've thought the default is supposed to be "Desktop Settings (Default)", could this be a LMDE issue?
|

Well, seeing that it was default on my desktop I reckon I must have played around with it at some stage on my T61...

also with your new user? |

|
Nope, the new user must have taken the qtconfig-qt4 GTK+ setting on board.
