Is there a secret to changing window decorations under kde4? The alternative decorations are installed and I can select them in the control panel, but I can't get decorations to change from La Ora.
Here are some details: Mandriva Linux 2009 (fresh install) product: Satellite A105 vendor: TOSHIBA version: PSAA8U-0EQ034 description: Motherboard product: MPAD-MSAE Customer Reference Boards vendor: Intel Corporation *-display:0 UNCLAIMED description: VGA compatible controller product: Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@0000:00:02.0 version: 03 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=0 I can't find anything about this in a Google search or searching this forum. I would appreciate any help. Mark

You are most likely using Compiz with the GNOME decorator so the system settings decoration panel will not do anything. You need to select the "KDE Window Decorator" from the Compiz control settings manager for those settings to be used. Better yet you can just replace Compiz with KWin from the default applications (Or advanced -> session) system settings panel.

Thanks for the reply, but the Session Manager says I'm using KWin as my window manager. Anything else I can try? Mark Edit: For giggles, I changed the window decorator in CCSM to KWin. After logging back in, I had no window decorations at all. I started Kwin manually with "kiwn --replace &" and I had the same old window decorations that I couldn't change and I lost all my desktop effects. No joy.

Okay, thanks for the input here. I was aware of the issue of KDE4 storing some settings in the .kde directory. I renamed the .kde directory a couple of days ago to eliminate that factor.
Tonight, I installed emerald-theme-manager, set Compiz window decorator to use Emerald, and then created an autostart item for /usr/bin/emerald. At this point, I seem to be in business and the Emerald themes look good. Again, thanks for the help. While I would like to be able to use the control panel in KDE to change the themes there, I like the Emerald themes and I'm pretty happy with the current arrangement. This one is closed. Mark
