Hi, first time poster here...
I`ve just installed ubuntu on my powerbook g4 1.25 a couple of days ago, and i`m trying to get to know the gui`s. I have both GNOME and KDE installed, i guess the latest versions, i cant really find out, i`ve tried... What drew me to KDE was it`s rep for being customizable, and coming from osx, i really like a lot of the features there that generally are not present in other gui`s. Like the menubar, dock, the hide feature etc... And i do like eye-candy, so i tried fitting in compiz too. But KDE is just about unusable. i can`t find a way to right-click, so pretty much 60% of the functionality is lost (I only have an old one-button mouse and ditto trackpad, of course) I`m finding the experience painful, and right now i`m running GNOME, which i don`t particularily like... and compiz is buggy and makes GNOME crash... I`ll get a new mouse and give KDE another chance, but without the menubar and with the start-menu (or whatchamaycallit) it just feels MSwindows-y. PLEASE BRING BACK THE MENUBAR!!!!!! Tristan |

Tanx for redirecting me. Guess i should have done a search first. And i found out F12 works as a second mouse button, so i got to try some compiz... I really like and WANT to like KDE, but i`m still having problems with stability. Everything seems to take up space, and resizing the taskbar gave me some unwanted graphical bugs... And i cannot change settings in Konqueror, cuz the ok-button is off screen with no scrollbar... How would i go about installing KDE 3.x? I really have no experience with Linux... Trìste |

You can move windows with Alt+Left click.
Which version of Ubuntu do you use?

kubuntu has some graphical glitches with kde4. but it's the only distro that i'v tried ( and I tried kubuntu, fedora, opensuse and mandriva), so I really don't know what they are doing it wrong.

Yeah, i`m pondering on going for YellowDog instead. Or maybe Xubuntu, as i briefly installed it on an old PC laptop, and it really appealed to me. Xfce seems lighter both in looks and system requirements. But I would love to try KDE3 and E17 on my Powerbook. Anyone got any ideas on how to install? The only installs I`ve ever done on Linux is through the Add/Remove function in ubuntu... Thanks, Trìste |
