I right click the panel at the bottom of the screen, then select
Code: Select all
Panel Options->Panel Settings
. Then I adjust the panel height to my preference. A few times a week the panel height goes back to being very small, so text on minimised program icons is unreadable.

How do I make the change permanent? KDE Plasma version is 5.5.5 with Qt version 5.5.1, 32 bit Kubuntu 16 04 LTS, according to KInfo.

If this was a bug, it's probably been fixed. Plasma 5.5.5 was released last year. Look into using the Kubuntu Backports PPA which will give you updated Plasma software. The lastest Plasma is 5.10.2 now, but this mentions xenial w/ backports has Plasma 5.8.6. Plasma 5.8.x was an LTS of Plasma which will receive bug fixes even after it the next feature release (5.9.0) until the next Plasma LTS (which is Plasma 5.12 I think).

Thanks. I've followed the instructions here http://www.kubuntu.org/tag/backports/ and after first reboot the panel height is normal again. I'll see what happens in future. Thanks!

KInfoCenter now says Plasma version 5.8.7

Obsidian Coast (application color scheme)
Oxygen (Desktop Theme)
