Hello,

I just did a fresh install of KDE Neon, and the default theme (Breeze) has transparency for the bottom panel / task manager / application launcher:

However, this is weird because the preview image for the theme doesn't have the effect:

I can't find an option to disable the transparency, is there one? Or will I have to make a custom theme?

Disable the "translucency" in the Desktop Effects

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I'm not sure what you mean, that option doesn't exist in Desktop Effects:

That looks exactly like the Breeze Transparent Plasma style.

The Plasma Style can be set independently from the Global Theme. No idea why yours is set to this one.
Have you tried switching to a different Style, then try going back to the stock Breeze Style?

Yeah it's weird. The Plasma Style was also just Breeze, on a fresh Neon install and updated to 5.18.

I ended up deleting the VM and reinstalling everything from scratch and now it's okay. I also now see the Translucency option in Desktop Effects. So no idea why the first install was so messed up. Thanks for the help!

VMs have "wierd " drivers, so things sometimes get wonky every now and again. The capabilities of whatever driver is used is looked at, and Desktop Effects that are not supported are usually not visible, normally. I wonder if changing the compositor settings would have fixed this, had we known it was a VM? At least , if it happens again, it can be checked.

Also, the Guest Additions, if you are running Virtualbox, will make things work a bit better, as Plasma does make use of the GPU for things like transparency settings. Enabling hardware acceleration in your VM settings might also help it run better, perhaps reduce the chance of other weirdnesses.
