Hi, I have installed Kubuntu 19.10, and I have a problem about analog audio for wired headphone output with 3.5mm jack port, there is no way to work audio, I can only configure for various HDMI outputs.
I’ve done a little bit of web searching for possible solutions, and no luck. I pass you the technical data of the system and the audio: System: Host: minipc Kernel: 5.3.0-42-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 9.2.1 Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.16.5 Distro: Ubuntu 19.10 (Eoan Ermine) Audio: Device-1: Intel Cannon Point-LP High Definition Audio driver: snd_hda_intel v: kernel bus ID: 00: 1f.3 Sound Server: ALSA v: k5.3.0-42-generic In alsamixer there are 5 S / PDIF that there is no way to increase and decrease the volume, it is always at 0, but, of course, they are for HDMI and / or DisplayPort outputs, but not for analog output. Any suggestions to fix it? |

In the System Settings -> Hardware ->Audio -> Advanced tab you should be able to change the profiles.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Hi.
Thanks for the reply. Your advice I had already done before and without any success. Can you think of any other suggestions to fix it? |

You mean you can't chose an analog profile?

That is weird, I guess something is wrong in your installation, because I have a wide range of choices here and can choose all of them, and I use the same distribution as you do. Unless you installed Plasma over Ubuntu, which is not the same as Kubuntu, and you miss some packages...

That's what I say is strange. The installation is the only pure and hard Kubuntu 19.10 operating system. Before I had tried to install Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Linx Mint Cinnamon, Manjaro KDE, and it happens with the same problem of analog audio, until I decided with Kubuntu because I have fallen in love with the KDE desktop that is really impressive, and above all the performance is incredible compared with the heavy KDE of 10 years ago, total that I have bet on trying my luck with the Kubuntu forums to find some solution.
Going a little deeper into the technical issue, in my opinion I think it could be one of the three possible technical scenarios of the problem: 1.- That the Kernel has not yet been adopted to the specific Intel sound card. 2.- Or the Intel driver for the specific sound card has not yet been adopted to the Debian database. 3.- Or that Alsa is missing a new update of the specific Intel driver for the sound card for Alsa. |

I doubt this is a kernel issue, I have the same and see all the options, even beyond what I actually use.
My internal audio device is Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-LP HD Audio (rev 21) and I use an external C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter, both profile options are fully there, so maybe this is related to your audio card, did you google for this? Although this being an Intel device I doubt it as well, as Intel usually is very well supported on Linux.

Hi!
You could at first look up if your onboard-audio device is enabled in UEFi ( the "new" BIOS) and if there are options to set. The next will be to get some information:
In case it is not a matter of alsa install pavucontrol with sudo apt install pavucontrol and use it to configure PulseAudio. Perhaps it will help to test with a new user to avoid configuration mixup and to try both - with plugged in and out headset. |
