Hi,

>>opened KDE system settings then selected configure and 'Tree View'
Then clicked on 'Desktop Effects'
characters are unreadable/crash/missing under 'Desktop effects menu list'
same behaviour with 'Sidebar view' and 'Icon view'
OS: buster
let me know if you need any other information. Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks,
Arun

A bit more information about your exact Plasma version might be helpful here, as well as which Global theme you are using.

FWIW: most issues with missing or badly displayed icons are appearing with 3rd-party global themes which need to be addressed to the author.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Buster doesn't exactly ship a recent Plasma and System Settings has changed quite a bit since that time, did you try using larger fonts?
You might provide a screenshot to illustrate the problem (use a direct image upload like imgur for that).

woah, that looks bad, what font do you use?

FWIW: since Plasma 5.14 is no longer supported on our side, you need to report this to Debian

Did you try another font, like Noto for example?

Did you report this to Debian? Because with your Plasma version there is really not much we can do about
