Hi all
Just installed Kubuntu 20.04 after an extended hiatus from Linux (10+ years). Loving it so far. Found a weird issue with application shortcuts though. I've created a new application that I've put in the KDE Menu Editor. I can go through the launcher and launch it just fine. However, the shortcut I've assigned to it doesn't work. The shortcut that is assigned by default to Dolphin (Meta-E) does work. If I use the new shortcut I'm trying to use (Ctrl-Alt-Shift-S) on Dolphin, this launches fine, however when I try to move that shortcut back to my application, nothing happens. Yet again, I can open it from the application menu just fine. Have rebooted and the problem persists. I can see that the Application Launcher Global Shortcut exists in System Settings...Workspace...Global Shortcuts... how do I diagnose this further? |

Just so I understand it correctly: You did assign an already taken shortcut from the global shortcuts to your own application? Hm, why not use a new shortcut, not already in use?
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

No, sorry, maybe I'll explain it a bit better... t1: * Alt-Ctrl-Shift-S (unused key combo) assigned to my own app = not working (but can open app from KDE Menu with no issues by clicking it) * Meta-E assigned to Dolphin = working (this is the default shortcut that Dolphin is assigned in KDE) t2: * Remove Meta-E from Dolphin and assign to my own app = not working (my app won't launch) * Remove Alt-Ctrl-Shift-S from my own app, assign to Dolphin = working (Dolphin launches with this custom key sequence) t3: * Put Alt-Ctrl-Shift-S back on my app = still not working (my app won't launch) * Put Meta-E back on Dophin = working (Dolphin continues launching) Basically: My app won't launch with the custom key combo. Not only that, any other app I assign custom key combos does not work. ONLY the handful that came with assigned shortcut keys with Kubuntu KDE work (e.g. Emoji Selector) - I can change existing apps' shortcuts and the new shortcuts work fine. Any apps that don't already have shortcuts assigned, no matter what I do, they will not launch from a shortcut when I assign them. Hope this makes sense. Where do I look/trace/etc to see why KDE isn't registering these shortcuts against these apps? |

See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=417495 and https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419297 (it's not yet sure if the bug is in kmenuedit or in the hotkeys utility).

Kubuntu 20.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.8 Following the suggestions in this comment on the related issue, I did the following:
It may be possible to fix this without recreating ~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc and just removing the global shortcuts that don't work from System Settings > Shortcuts > Global Shortcuts, then logging out, logging back in and setting the launcher shortcuts anew. |
