Hello all,
I've been seing this problem since Kubuntu 18.04. I normally use A4 plain paper when printing so that's what I set the printer settings to in System settings/Printers. I also change the settings to use duplex printing. After each print job however, the settings go back to Letter and the duplex to one-sided. I'm not sure what the problem might be. I'd be grateful for any tips and tricks to solve this! My system info: Operating System: Kubuntu 20.04 KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0 Qt Version: 5.12.8 Kernel Version: 5.4.0-33-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 12 × Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-1650 v3 @ 3.50GHz Memory: 31,3 GiB of RAM My printer is a Dell 1815dn.

According to https://openprinting.org/printer/Dell/D ... MFP_1815dn tis printer is only partially supported in Linux. Did you try checking for a newer driver from the manufacturer?
FWIW: I have no problems with the printer settings remaining when I set those in the System Settings, using a HP printer.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Thanks for the feedback! I have, the one you point to in fact. This driver however gives me an error:
I've no idea what to do about it. Am running Kubuntu 20.04, but seems this driver is only for RHEL and possibly Suse Linux? The one I'm using now is for a Dell laser 3100 or some such and has been reported to work with my printer, at least for the basic stuff. I see you mention you're using a HP-printer. May I ask what model that is? Also, generally speaking, is there a mfp-printer brand and model that works flawlessly with *ubuntu?

I think I fixed it.
With the guidance in mind from Mamarok I did this: 1. Went to Dell and read up on printer support with Ubuntu. https://www.dell.com/support/article/sv-se/sln284862/installing-a-dell-laser-printer-on-an-ubuntu-operating-system?lang=en Apparantely Ubuntu isn't supported out-of-the-box, unless you can supply a ppd-file. 2. I then went to https://www.dell.com/support/home/sv-se/drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=Y72PM and downloaded the driver zipfile and extracted it on my system. 3. Using the code from https://askubuntu.com/questions/307876/how-to-search-for-files-recursively-into-subdirectories;
I found a ppd file in ./cdroot/Linux/noarch/at_opt/share/ppd/, and made a note of the path. 4. Started the Add printer wizard in the KDE System settings and pointed it to the ppd-file from §3. 5. Closing the wizard and re-checking the paper size, it now seems it's sticking. Perhaps this writeup may help others. And thanks again Mamarok for setting me on the right track.

Is there a fix version for Windows too? Thanks. I know that there are very many softs that windows doesn’t run, but I have no clue on how I should fix it. The printer says that I have to change the toner, and even if I do that, it still isn’t recognized when I plug it in. It looks like I have to change both the computer and the printer. In any case, thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try to fix this, because this whole situation has been driving me crazy for a while.

For Windows? As in Microsoft Windows? I'm not aware you can run KDE as a desktop environment in Microsoft Windows. Edit My mistake! There apparantely are a few KDE apps for Windows too. https://community.kde.org/Windows However, the ppd-files I guess are specific to linux environments (please correct me if I'm wrong) and for MS Windows you'd need Windows specific drivers.
