Keyboard backlight depends on proprietary drivers AFAIK, so ask the manufacturers to provide free drivers for Linux.

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I recently bought a laptop from skikk, installed kubuntu 20.04 (now upgraded to 20.10) on it and one of the things that doesn't work is the keyboard leds, it simply stays blue and on all the time (even when the laptop goes in suspend mode).

It would be really nice if this could be controlled via the plasma desktop configuration settings, perhaps it's not that difficult to add? I found some pointers about this on the following links:

https://configurelaptop.eu/clevo-keyboa ... for-linux/
https://github.com/tuxedocomputers/tuxe ... /issues/12
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=21562361

Perhaps it's different for different brands of laptops or keyboards, it would be nice if there's a generic "middleware" layer to abstract the different ways these keyboard leds are interfaced with the PC...

Cheers

/Simon
