It started after upgrade to Ubuntu 21.04, and appears only for KDE applications (krunner, systemsettings5, plasma, ...) but doesn't for Qt-only apps (like QtCreator). It doesn't matter do I start plasma or run KDE apps from openbox window manager.
I think it happens because of `qt.svg: <input>:406:376: Could not add child element to parent element because the types are incorrect.`.
I tried to google this message but no luck.
Some folks have fixed it by changing style of drawing windows and icons to another style and back, but it doesn't work for me.

Any ideas?

Define "Icons got messy"?
What Icons and Theme do you use?

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

As you can see on screenshot, I get balck squares instead of icons. I happens for any icon style or plasma style that I tried.

Could it be that your installation of the Plasma desktop is incomplete? If you are running Ubuntu and not Kubuntu, I strongly suggest you install the kubuntu-desktop package to make sure nothing is missing

Did you try with a new user? That would rule out a missing package

I tried to reproduce this issue on other hardware, 1 desktop and 1 laptop. It worked OKay but finally it got messy on another machine too. I suspect that I have installed/upgraded today a few packages and it break something. This is the list. I suspect Qt related ones.

Code: Select all
2021-06-12 11:38:51 install libcurl3-gnutls:i386 <none> 7.74.0-1ubuntu2
2021-06-12 11:39:15 install libtbb2:i386 <none> 2020.3-1
2021-06-12 18:15:27 install dyalog-unicode-180:amd64 <none> 18.0.39712
2021-06-12 18:29:34 install qtbase5-dev:amd64 <none> 5.15.2+dfsg-5
2021-06-12 18:29:44 install libqt5gui5:amd64 5.14.2+dfsg-6 5.15.2+dfsg-5
2021-06-12 18:29:44 install libqt5opengl5:amd64 <none> 5.15.2+dfsg-5
2021-06-12 18:29:45 install libqt5opengl5-dev:amd64 <none> 5.15.2+dfsg-5

I doubt so, as I have the same Qt packages installed and nothing is messy. Just to rule out the obvious: you run Plasma as a regular installation, not in a virtual box, don't you?

Thanks for your time, but I finally found how to fix my issue there: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1920130

By some reason -gles packages were installed. Putting back proper ones fixed the issue.
