Compare&highlight

Wed Mar 15, 2023 9:28 am
I was wondering if anyone ever came across a script that does the following:
I often find myself moving stuff from one folder to another when those two folders have the same name but are on a, for example, different partition. Let me elaborate. I have a folder called Music on a portable ssd. The Music folder on my computer contains the same items but new ones as well. Now, whenever I want to drag new items from the folder on my computer to the one on the portable, it's kind of a pain to see which are the new files ( it's fine with 10, but what when you have hundreds). So I was wondering if there's a way, maybe in a servicemenu) to have some sort of kompare, whether in split view or tabs, that HIGHLIGHTS the different files. Some kind of script using, I dunno, Meld for example. Now, I know I can use the inbuilt Backup tool to keep the portable updated to the newest but I don't necessarily want all files to be updated. I want to be able to choose which ones, the ones that are already highlighted ( marked as + so to speak) by the script. That way you can uncheck the ones that don't need to be moved/copied over. Would be good option for a file manager ( Krusader has this kind of functionality I believe).https://imgur.com/a/IqS38wE

As a sidenote, diff commands work fine but kompare has some diff bug apparently and prompted empty windows. So, I couldn't check that one. Kdiff however wouldn't let me select folders from a split view. It always picks the last selected folder and prompts with a "same directory-something". Meld is the only proper working gui tool. As in, it allows to select from within a split view. https://imgur.com/a/wPyAKXO
