Hello all,
Have any of you seen anything like this: ![]() I think this has something to do with running qt4 apps in my kde 3.5 session--it always seems to happen when I open KeePassX or smplayer. After closing either of those apps, the fonts gradually clear up as I refresh window contents, etc etc. The fonts in Firefox's menu bar will corrupt, but the fonts in a web page will not. I've reinstalled the font (ttf-dejavu) and several libraries, just in case. Are there any other libraries or config options I need to check out? Thanks!

If you are still affected by this, you could try removing ~/.fonts.conf, ~/.config/Trolltech.conf. also try removing ~/.fontconfig.
If you are not, then could you please add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the thread subject? Thanks in advance.

Deleting those files does not solve the problem for me. I still have garbled fonts in konsole (Misc Console, Misc Fixed, Misc Fixed Wide), and most important, in wine. I say most important because in console I can work around using Lucida Console, while in wine, I don't have a clue. The same issue has been reported in those links: http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-l ... ssues.html http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/suse-l ... 1-1-a.html http://linux.derkeiler.com/Mailing-List ... 02166.html The last link provides two screenshots of the problem: http://users.telenet.be/tos4ever/downloads/wine1.jpg http://users.telenet.be/tos4ever/downloads/wine2.png I am currently lost. |

mroberto: You may need to logout and log back in for removing those files to have any effect. Try removing anything font related in your $HOME. ( ~/.font* )

mroberto: Is a new user affected?

Yes, it does affect new users.
I should mention I am using KDE 3.5. KDE 4 is not affected by this bug here. |

mroberto: Your system wide configuration may need to be updated, or KDE 3 and KDE 4 are using different font rendering settings ( Anti-Aliasing, Sub pixel rendering, etc. )
You will need to ask your distribution how to rebuild the Font database.

I am using OpenSUSE 11.1. It seems very strange that only a few of the fonts are affected by this garbage. Do you know how to do that for OpenSUSE? One fact: it worked when I did the upgrade at first from OpenSUSE 10.2 to 11.1. Then later I did a software upgrade using Yast and this problem started to happen. The list of garbled fonts in my system, as seen from the Konsole font selection window, is: Adobe Courier B&H Lucida Typewriter Bitstream Terminal DEC Terminal ETL Fixed Efont Fixed Ets Caption Ets Teletext Ets Teletext Wide Led Fixed Misc Console Misc Fixed Misc Fixed Wide Schumacher Clean Sony Fixed I don't know if this list gives a clue, maybe they have something in common. Best regards! |

If this problem started when you performed a update through YaST ( assuming it was an official update ) then you should ask on their forums if anyone else has this problem. They will probably be able to tell you how to regenerate the font configuration as well.
I do not know how to regenerate the font configuration.

Ok, thank you, I will do that. If I find the solution, I will post it here. |

Well, I have finally figured it out. It is a problem with the nVidia driver:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=122178 Here I have # /sbin/lspci | grep -i nvidia 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV18 [GeForce4 MX 440 AGP 8x] (rev a4) The solution was: # rpm -e x11-video-nvidia nvidia-gfx-kmp-default ![]() Looking forward to the next nVidia driver... It is funny, because KDE4 does not suffer from that. |

Probably because the YaST control center is still based upon Qt3....
