Could you explain this a little bit for me? I wonder why changes made in the 'desktop theme details' section are not working at the moment.

The 'settings' file in the '...apps/desktoptheme/xxx/' folders look strange to me since they contain entries in german language, with german umlauts e.g. (in my case), and sometimes this file isn't even created...) ...im currently trying to track this one down, I'm not sure if that is the correct behaviour.

If the settings file isn't created, then some svgzs are copied into the folder; but the information where they come from is lost in this case(?). If the german settings entries are correct as they are, then I think this file is unusable after I change the language. So at least, something is strange.

Edit: Ah, now I understand. It's not a bug, it's a feature, isn't it? :-D

I agree with the original poster not asking about the technicality, although it is still on topic though ( although more technical )

I am not surprised at all that Desktop Theme Details isn't working entirely correctly, it is very new code after all.

Plasma wasn't exactly built with having its config changed by others under its feet ( I think some D-Bus magic is needed to flush the config to file and to refresh it, which will come when Plasma is D-Bus scriptable )

I would recommend restarting Plasma after making changes which will probably get them into full effect.

Thank you for your response. So I finally can stop trying to get desktopthemedetails working until the mentioned functionality is in place (since restarting Plasma doesn't help, I still suspect that user defined themes are either not written correctly into the configs or Plasma is unable to read them correctly).

I fully understand that this systemsettings module is a very young one. I'm perhaps a little bit too impatient. :-)

Probably just the fact that the code is still young, although I think it is part of base, so bug reports are probably welcome.

All the D-Bus stuff will let it do is inform Plasma to re-read the config so it doesn't have to be restarted.

If you do not have a transparent panel, it is definitely a graphics driver issue. Refer to this thread if you have an nVidia GPU.

I have an ATI card. It works fine with desktop effects activated, but with oxygen theme for plasma the panels weren't transparent. I'm using Arezzo theme now and the panels are transparent :S

Maybe Oxygen doesn't have transparent panels anymore...

I totally agree with that ;)

Poliander wrote:Why starting such a technical discussion? The original poster did not want to know anything about transparency, nVidia cards, design philosophies nor Qt apis.

Well, that's true, but knowing how it works is always interesting, and getting a little technical won't hurt ^_^

Me too :P
I'll wait for future versions of systemsettings to switch again to oxygen theme (using arezzo theme right now, it's pretty good).

It is also possible to replace the file "panel-background.svgz" located in the "...share/apps/desktoptheme/default/opaque/widgets" folder (desktop effects disabled), respectively "...share/apps/desktoptheme/default/widgets" (desktop effects enabled). I took the one from the Arezzo theme, but I had to gzip it first. The analog clock did not work with the Arezzo theme for me. Looks like this now...

For all users suffering from this, see this bug:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=177322

Unfortunately the developers don't think it is worth to change this. Please comment there if you think this is an important feature.
