it worked ! allmost
i copied /usr/share/apps/desktoptheme/default from 4.1 to a new name in 4.2 i changed the name of the theme in the .desktop file inside too so itll not conflict with the 4.2 oxygen when i choose oxygen 4.1 in the theme settings i get the exact look of 4.1 except kicker menu (its still themed) and the taskbar (i use it vertical on the side of the screen. the tasks are in small buttons and not stretched). probably the differences are in plasma and not the theme when i choose (custom theme) and choose oxygen 4.1 in all components in system settings (advanced) it gets allmost the look of 4.1 but the system tray is still with frame. its probably missing from the settings and defaults to oxygen 4.2 unless a complete other theme is set i think it comes now down to that the kicker menu and system tray are missing from the advanced list in system settings and cannot be set there. i hope theyll be there in the released 4.2 |

Maybe because, as I said, Kickoff is a part of plasma packages? Kickoff does not ship dedicated themes yet and the appearance is dependent on the desktop theme. Anyway, the Aya theme for KDE 4.1.96 looks more like the the 4.1 one now

Another note - You cannot remove that frame around the system tray. It is impossible, due to the way Plasma has to handle system tray icons in order for them not to corrupt, providing application crash, etc.

Impossible. KDE 4.2's system tray uses a RGB QWidget, embedded on Plasma's normal QGraphicsWidget which uses ARGB visuals. All KDE 4.2 theme's ( including Aya ) show this border. It is more than likely you just can't see the border because of the colour being exactly the same.

No need to sweat it, guys. Ash can have his impossible frameless systray if that's what he wants. ![]() After all, if you can't see the border, who cares if it actually exists?

I will do what Ash did. I really hate the frame in the taskbar (I can support it in the systray).

Actually, a few plasma themes don't show the frame . The "Professional" theme in 4.2 doesn't. It also looks pretty good with Skulpture.

Well, it's not very nice. I still love the black panel from kde 4.1.

I sorta miss that old fashioned black panel, too. The new Oxygen panel is stunning, but it can really clash with the widgets and other styles depending on the wallpaper; since the panel is nearly transparent, it very strongly takes after the color of the wallpaper. The old Oxy panel was always consistent with the widgets.
