removing taskbar translucency

Thu Jan 22, 2009 5:20 pm
Hello there!

I would like to remove the translucency from the taskbar.
Is it possible without removing all other animations and desktop effects?

software versions:
Qt: 4.4.3
KDE: 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3)
KWin: 3.0

Thanks in advance

The instructions outlined here should disable panel transparency without disabling desktop effects.

There are tons of people for whom advanced visuals are not an option. Putting a switch for this in system settings would be great (although it's too late for 4.2.).

Just the answer I was looking for. Hopefully this makes it into KDE 4.3
I would love to have desktop effects but keep the solid panel.

You could just use a Plasma theme without transparent panels - or have I missed something?

I remember there being a suggestion that a solid colour chosen by the theme developer would replace the transparency if compositing is unavailable on the Plasma mailing list. No idea if it was implemented.

as i understood the ? - is there way to make only the taskbar opaque (and have transparency enabled for windows and kickoff etc) - with existing themes that support transparency

This is a bit hackish, but worth a shot I think. This is for Oxygen plasma theme, copy
/usr/share/apps/desktoptheme/default/opaque/widgets/panel-background.svgz

to /usr/share/apps/desktoptheme/default/widgets/panel-background.svgz
