Hi all,
I'm using kubuntu intrepid with kde 4.1.96, someone knows how to remove the menu drop shadow from the kde3 applications? In applications like k3b, kaffeine, the result is really bad if the desktop effects are enabled... thank you bye P.S. why in the drop down list of this text area I can choose only Microsoft fonts???? :-S

I believe there is a "shadows" Desktop Effects plugin that can be disabled to remove this shadow, otherwise I wouldn't know.
wrt to the drop down list you are correct. I believe this might be because they are "Core web fonts". I think that list is provided by MyBB.

It's in the "Style" module. In System Settings (KDE3) I think it's Appearance -> Style -> Effects, "Menu drop shadow" checkbox.

I think I have a kubuntu intrepid issue: I have no way to install the kde3 version of systemsettings, nor the ability to install kcontrol. I believe that they are not present in the kubuntu repositories.
There is a configuration file to set the use of menu drop shadow instead of using a graphical interface? for accuracy, kde3 libs installed: kdelibs-data 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu6 kdelibs4c2a 4:3.5.10-0ubuntu6 drop down list: or they are "internet explorer" Core web fonts? :O

We will have to do this manually, in a configuration file then. Could you see if this command produces any output?
If it does, then we will have to manually check configuration files until we find the correct one. Alternately, are any KDE 3 KCM's available?

NOP!
1. gio@joelaplx:~$ cat .kde/share/config/* | grep -i shadow cat: .kde/share/config/colors: Is a directory cat: .kde/share/config/kresources: Is a directory cat: .kde/share/config/session: Is a directory kwin4_effect_shadowEnabled=true gio@joelaplx:~$ nothing related to kde3... 2. gio@joelaplx:~$ kcmshell --list The following modules are available: gio@joelaplx:~$ list is empty... gio@joelaplx:~$ kcmshell --version Qt: 3.3.8b KDE: 3.5.10 KDE Control Module: gio@joelaplx:~$ the only thing that comes close that I could find in my system is /etc/kde3/kthemestylerc provided by kdelibs-data package, whose contents are virtually empty: gio@joelaplx:~$ cat /etc/kde3/kthemestylerc [General] themes= gio@joelaplx:~$ ![]()

Do KDE 3 applications have the under shadow if 3D effects are disabled? If they do, then we need to find out which key to set from someone with a functional KDE 3 system. If they don't, then I can only suggest disabling some 3D effects of KWin.

Yes, if I turn off the effects, kde3 applications continue to have the shadow. I remember when I used the kde3, the shadow of the menu could be disabled by kcontrol.
I think that now, having no configuration file kde3, kde3 are using the default settings, which provide the shadow of the menu. I attach two snapshot so I think to be more clear. ![]() ![]() As for the effects of kwin4, I do not disable them ever! they are a great thing! This same problem was present with compiz, but then having the kcontrol I disabled the shadow of menus from kwin3. Don't you have a kde3 config file without menu drop shadow to share with me? thank you for all!

Try looking in ~/.qt. The file in particular is kstylerc I believe.

bingo! created the file with the content (found on the Internet): gio@joelaplx:~$ cat .qt/kstylerc [Settings] SemiTransparentRubberband=false MenuDropShadow=false gio@joelaplx:~$ the problem has gone away. Thanks for helping. ![]()
