Is there a way for me to edit my System Settings..... folder?.... whatever you call what System Settings is? I think having a System folder, a Settings folder, and a System Settings.. folder.. is extremely redundant, and I'd like to combine everything into System Settings (like a Control Panel). It would be nice, but isn't necessary, if I could create my own dividers, too. But the main issue is really just getting it all in one place.

Assuming you are talking about the Menu, with the two categories "System" and "Settings", you can use KMenuEdit to combine them. This is available from the right click menu, on the Launcher ( Application Menu ) under "Menu Editor"

If you are talking about the application "System Settings" which configures KDE applications, then this is impossible. It cannot be re-ordered, have things added or removed very easily ( not designed for user changes )

Be careful with the menu editor.. in my experience you should never delete a main folder in there.. if the settings folder is empty it won't be displayed anyway.. but if you delete the empty folder and then install an application that wants to be listet in this folder it will noch be listed at all..

btw. i think thats a bug.

bcooksley, I was actually talking about the System Settings "application." That's no good that I can't add apps to it... But I suppose it's more true to say that everything should already be there, in my opinion. And I would have just combined them in KDE Menu Editor, but it is much more difficult to go through a long list in the Menu than it is going through the icons in System Settings (with or without categorical dividers).

waldelf, thanks for the heads-up! I had been wondering why folders were listed when I went to edit the menu that never showed up. I think some apps may have been bundled with the Live CD that I don't have now, because I definitely remember a couple of those folders showing up (Education->Science, maybe Games). Anyway, I'll refrain from deleting those empty folders! :P

Maybe, but it would be nice if it was possible to at least launch third-party settings-like applications from there, even if they're not as integrated as the official modules. Say, for example, nvidia-settings, gcompris settings (for those of us with kids at home...), or gconf-editor or what not that do not have a native KDE-settings module.

I believe there might be a method out there to add modules like that, however you would have to manually code a *.desktop file appropriately in order to do so, and they would still launch as an external window.

If this is not possible, you may wish to file a feature request if it doesn't already exist.

Sorry, I wasn't sure how that system worked.. Like, if the answer to your question is "it isn't possible," is your issue resolved? I'll just mark it anyway.

If it isn't possible, a feature request is usually filed ( with a link posted back here ). Sometimes they are also marked as Solved.
