Blurry Fonts KDE4 - Tahoma

Wed Feb 04, 2009 7:33 am
Peace!

I'm using the "Tahoma" Font and for some weird reason, it appears blurry or some letters are conjoined. This happens for certain windows only and maybe occasionally in textboxes.

Anyone else having similar problems?

While I do not use Tahoma as my font, your Fonts cache could be corrupted. This can be fixed by removing
Code: Select all
~/.fontconfig/

This will not affect your font configuration in any way ( but will require you to logout and log back in for it to fully take effect )

fc-cache -fv will refresh the font cache, i dont think apps need to be restarted, not sure. You can also play about with the font anti aliasing settings in the font configuration dialogue and see if it makes a difference, when configuring fonts with system settings you need to restart the app to change anti aliasing settings, you don't need to restart if you only change the font.

Hmm.. I've applied the xml tweaks found at www.sharpfonts.com which significantly helped in reverting the font status back to "Windows XP" Cleartype standard. Now, weird fonts rendering are more exclusive to gtk apps.

However, the problem illustrated by the screenshot above still happens when I use the Arial Font, regardless of its size. The top part seems to be overlapped by the icons. Changing the icons size doesn't work either... I'm stumped..
