kickoff translucency

How to remove the translucent background on Kickoff menu - KDE 4.2?

This causes some difficulty reading the menu items because the translucency is set too high and the background windows show through.

Any ideas?

If you want to keep the rest of plasma the same you can use the "Desktop Theme Details" to set the plasma theme for the kickoff menu individually (you could use Nitro, which is basically an opaque version of the default theme). Maybe, changing the kickoff theme does not actually work for me, but maybe it will for you.

No that did not work. Still translucent and a real ***** to read when the window behind contains text. Ah well . . .

You could also try disabling Desktop Effects.

Some problem here.
Disabling these effects is not a real solution.
The Destop Effects are working great and causing no problems elsewhere.

Does anybody know an answer?
After installations I've had no problems, but then I've had some updates, changes of versions, etc. and this problem occurred............

perhaps the option aaron seigo came with on his blog (something about turning of the airgb for plasma) helps?

I'm using the aya theme of opensuse, that one gives a useable kickoff background (and useable background for popup windows of the panel).
What i noticed with kde4 in general is that most plasma themes are having useability problems: they are either unreadable on dark backgrounds or unreadable on light backgrounds.

I've tried to do the same, but that caused more problems (with other program's)

The thing is that with 4.1.3 everthing worked fine (for me, that is).
I've just checked it on my other PC.

Seems like 4.2.0 isn't a step forward for me.
Let's hope that this bug will be fixed soon with an update!

There were many pluses for me in 4.2 - Kmail was better for one, and I spend a huge part of my day doing email. Overall I thought it was great, just a pity about the kickoff thing.
