kscreensaver - password alternatives

Hello,

I have kscreensaver set to go on automatically and to lock my screen. It works fine; if I leave my computer for a while, I come back and enter my login password to unlock the screen.

However, my login password is long, and its not convenient to keep typing it every time I have to leave my computer and come back.

I would like to set kscreensaver to also accept an alternative, shorter password to unlock the screen. Ideally this would be in addition to my login password.

How can I set this up? I see that there is an /etc/pam.d/kscreensaver file, but I haven't been able to find any documentation on how to do this.

I use KDE 4.1 and my Distro is kubuntu 8.10.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Unless there is a PAM module that supports alternate passwords it is not possible. If there is, then it is a simple case of editing the PAM KScreenSaver file you found.
