The configure button is greyed out on the GTK style in the Appearance app. Is there a way to enable that?

The "Kubuntu-Way" is configuring the kde4-style (kde-style-qtcurve-kdeconfig). All changes will be adopted to gtk2-engines-qtcurve.

It's probably grayed out because there are no configuration options for it. My understanding of the style is that it used the current GTK+ style. If you want to configure a GTK+ style that has configurable options, you need to use the appropriate GTK+ style configuration tool.

Where and how do I use this configuration tool?

I don't know, I guess it's whatever GNOME uses. The point is that it's a GTK+ theme, not a Qt theme, so it has to be configured using whatever is normal for GTK+ themes.
