i am trying to make my kde 4.2 run as fast as 3.5

among everything else i try to get rid of all those effects like fades and sliding tooltips and zoom etc

is there way to disable them ?

(maybe like KDE_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1)

System settings -> desktop -> Uncheck "Enable desktop effects".

i did that allready. i want to remove all the other effects too

stuff like fading and slidind and resizing widgets

any other suggestions ?

Sorry, I do not believe it is possible to disable the Plasma widget resizing effects. You could use Aya, which doesn't use SVG effects as intensely however.

and in applications (not plasma) ?

stuff like

smooth scrolling (other apps than konqueror)

fading and resizing of the preview in dolphin

smooth resizing icons in side panels when i resize them

fading in / out the frame on file icons on hover

Do not know about Dolphin unfortunately. It is quite possible that it is not possible to disable them. You could try a different Qt style other than Oxygen, since it uses heavy amounts of gradients.

A different style is definitely what you want to do. Oxygen is a very heavyweight style. Try plastique, cleanlooks or phase instead.

is there one that is close to kde3 .net or light style 3 ?

Are there any benchmarks of this? also is ati better than nvidia still at 2D?
