I have been running KDE4.2 in sidux for a whole 2 days now and have a question about the new menu system. Is it possible to have the next group open without clicking on it?

Yes it is. Hover over menu icon > ( Right Click ) > Application Launcher Settings > General. Ensure "Switch tabs on hover" is checked. If you do not have this option, then it has been added to Trunk, and will be available with KDE 4.3.

I have it and it's checked but not working. Maybe I didn't explain it right I can hover over Applications and open that tab but I have to click Games and then Card Games and finally Kpatience. I would of thought I could hover over all of them and only click Kpatience. Like the old style menu does.

Please file a feature request or bug report at bugs.kde.org, so that this can be rectified in a later release. I was able to reproduce what you explain on my Trunk installation.

The option does what it says in the combo box - Switch tabs on hover. I've never seen that feature the OP asks for. How would you make sure you switch to the right category? Move the mouse outside of Kickoff, or would there be a delay before Kickoff switched to the new category? Either way sounds very bad to me.
If you like the old menu behavior, you can right click on the icon -> Switch to Classic Menu Style. Or you can try out Lancelot, which has something called 'extenders' (not the same as extenders in Plasma) to achieve what you want in Kickoff.
