I really like when you start applications and their icons then bounce up and down following your mouse. Unfortunately after updating to KDE 4.3 BETA they are really laggy...

Is this with the graphic drivers? Nothing else is laggy, desktop effects enabled with a 9400GT. They've been fine in the past until this update.

Any ideas?

This sounds like a regression, assuming nothing else on your system has changed ( like enabling compositing for instance ) If nothing else has changed, I would recommend filing a bug report aganist KWin.

Hmm... that's odd isn't kwin required for KDE? It seems kwin was never installed on my system, now it is but I don't see any difference in the 'jumping' icons.

Is there a proper term for these animated icons?
