BUG: Tray icons backgrounds...

Sun Jun 21, 2009 6:08 am
OK, so this is THE most annoying bug in all times in KDE. And it looks like it has appeared in 4.x versions as i haven't noticed anything like this in 3.x versions.. I'm talking about the system tray icons here. Sometimes odd backgrounds appear behind these icons. I have collected screenshots from KDE 4.1, 4.2 and even 4.3 has the same bug.. Why can't KDE Team fix this super annoying bug once and for all? :(

You forgot to mention Qt 4.5
Qt 4.5 is really fixing tray problem.

KDE 4.3 is not affected, at least on my system ( with and without compositing enabled )
Running Qt 4.5 from qt-copy.

Could you check it with gtk-apps in tray?

Might also depend on the applications embedding their status icons there.

Traditional tray icons are owned and managed by the application they belong to and some have problems providing a properly configured "window", e.g. icons without alpha channel.

I think 4.3 has some improvements in this area by assuming that traditional system area clients are not capable of anything modern at all and just providing a better way for applications that are.

Perhaps somebody can find the aseigo, notmart, et al. blogs about system tray/notification area issues and post them here.

Cheers,

I use Wicd, which is a Gtk application and its icon behaves correctly as far as I aware. Definitely no serious corrupting garbage.
