Hi, I'm having some problems with the enhanced desktop effects and I wonder if you are having the same problems.
I made some small movies (approx 4 and 2 mb)
My system: Intel Core 2 duo E6600 2GB ram Nvidia 8500GT on Syncmaster 225BW screen I have the NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version 177) installed. So I guess the question is this: Is this a bug or did I do something wrong? (maybe I'm missing something)

I think its still because of the Nvidia driver. http://techbase.kde.org/User:Lemma/KDE4-NVIDIA maybe this post will help you

I have the same problem on my nVidia GeForce 6600. It's not as slow, but it can't compare to the performance of Windows. And the link did not help. I tried everything.

The resizing problem is from the nVidia drivers. It's because they keep the window data on the graphics card all the time, meaning when the user resizes a window they need to copy the entire window to the CPU, tell X to resize it, then resend all the data back to the GPU. This technique makes everything except window resizing really, really fast (Which is good as you don't really resize windows often). I have no idea on the second one because you've seemed to link the same video twice and don't have a more detailed description. ![]() |

Thanks for your replies!
I've updated my first post so that now also the problem with firefox is hopefully clear and the link is correct. Based on your suggestions I've tried different drivers (version 173 and 177) and different settings but it doesn't change the resizing speed. I'll try some more tweaking of the options for the device. But if the resizing of windows works as Zarin describes it, which seems reasonable to me, it seems to me there is not much hope in increasing it's speed this way. So I probably just have to wait for a Nvidia driver update which also includes rescaling. Do I understand this correctly?

firefox seems ok to me whats the ugly thing about it? and yes it seems like we have to wait for a nvidia driver that supports it better

Wait for 180.x driver, NVIDIA said to Phoronix that they have rewriiten the problematic whole part. It will be availible before 4.2.

Intel X3100 here and I do not suffer the issue, unless no application is drawing there. This is usually only shown when logging in, before the splash shows. I do not use Firefox however, but do use Kickoff, Konqueror and Opera and none of these ever experiences the issue.
