KDE3.5 will not get any major updates, right.
To your questions, it depends on what you mean by theme, icons and style. E.G. there is still a plastik windeco/theme available for KDE4, same goes for the classic menu. And if you don't want plasmoids, just don't use them. Or remove the ones you have on the desktop. And if you want to have your old icons on the desktop back, you can even do that, just set your desktop to folderview. |

I'm interested in kde3 look for kde4 as well -- I made my sister use kde3.5, but soon it will become obsolete as kde-4.3 stabilises in portage tree. I would like to keep the interface as similar to kde3 as possible for her. So a kde3-like theme would sure be nice. Is someone aware of such a theme?

Do you mean something like this?
![]() That's using the traditional menu, Plastique widget style and Plastik window decoration. I'm sure if you browse around on kde-look you'll be able to find a more kde3-like icon theme and plasma theme. The only problem is that although you can probably make KDE4 look fairly similar to KDE3 I'm not sure that it will behave in the same way.

That's Crystal. Not sure it works with 4.x, however (the naming scheme is a bit different).

Thanks Hans, just a few things :
-How to remove plamoids, as Sacarde and I asked ? For example : file copy : I just want a "classic" window. -the first link you gave brings to a general web page, to buy icons $$. No free Crystal SVG any longer. -the second link "Klassik" gave a serie of images files : what do to with that ? |

In this specific case: right click on the (i) icon in the system tray -> System Tray Settings -> [Information] -> uncheck "File transfers and other jobs". Please refer to Plasma HowTo to see how to remove plasmoids on the desktop and in the panel.
Do you still have KDE3 installed? I think you can find the icons in /usr/share/icons. I found this script that renames the files to work with 4.x: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/kd ... tent=86949 Note that there will probably be some missing icons.
The easiest way is to install is to >= 4.4: Open System Settings -> Appearance -> [Style] -> Workspace tab -> Get New Themes... -> Search for "Klassik" -> Install. <= 4.3: Right click on desktop -> Desktop/Appearance Settings -> New Theme... -> Search for "Klassik" -> Install.

I've only been using KDE 4.4.3 (Kubuntu 10.04.1) for a short time, but did not care for the Desktop Folder plasma thing.
To get a Desktop that looked like my old KDE 3.5 system's, I chose the "Classic View" for the Application Launcher Menu, dragged icons from the Desktop Folder plasma to the Desktop, moved some icons (Firefox and Thunderbird) from the Desktop Folder and copied others from the Launch menu to the horizontal panel at the screen's bottom... then clicked the X at the slide-out menu on the Desktop Folder plasma. It disappeared... (I'm not sure where it went, and I hope I can get it back some day if I ever want to!). I then increased the size of the application icons on the Desktop, and chose a favorite photograph as the background. The only difference now from my other system is in the text names of the icons; I had white text on a black background, while 10.04.1 has black text on a white blur background. Each is perfectly readable. All of my favorite applications are now installed and working fine, except Kgpg; I've posted elsewhere here about that. The look is just what I wanted, simple and attractive without the pop-out or slide-out features that didn't appeal to me. |

If you wish to display the Folder View again, simply add a "Folder View" widget.
If you wish to have a more traditional view of ~/Desktop/ taking up the entire desktop, then open "Desktop Settings" > Activity. Change "Type" to "Folder View".
