Lost my folders in home folder

Thu Sep 10, 2009 9:46 pm
Not sure what happened but I can no longer see any of my folders in my home directory with dolphin. The folders are still there and programs work... I can see the folders from the command line. I tried running kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental It did not help.

Do you see any message in Dolphin's status bar?

Try removing the ~/.directory file.

Have you checked ownership of the directory?

ls -l /home/username

I have ownership but if I do an ls -la the commandline hangs! I can not even control C out of it - I have to kill the konsole terminal. ls -l shows this:

[tylerm@compaq ~]$ ls -l /home/tylerm/

@ bcooksley:

home/$user directory files problem is solved. It was a gvfs problem.
- Backup the file vfs-fuse-daemon as vfs-fuse-daemon.bak
- Make a new blank file vfs-fuse-daemon, and make it executable

Because the vfs-fuse-daemon is call from the code, we could not do any setting to disable it. But we can cheat it as do above. As I know the vfs-fuse-daemon is only need in limitd cases.
This worked like a charm. Had to do hard reboot however.

Thanks again to all who helped solve this problem and to all those who tried. I really did not want to re-install to fix it.

This worked thanks! What caused your home directory to disappear? Do you know? I still am not sure other than it seemed to happen after I renamed a Thunderbird shortcut icon in my desktop folder view plasma. Does this have any bad repercussions?

I would be _very_ surprised if renaming an icon would, or even could, cause such a problem to crop up.

Yes I completely agree but there was no changes to that directory other than that. I do recall this happening with an older version of Fedora 10 about half a year ago. Must be a missed bug of some sort.
