Modify default user profil

Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:45 pm
Hi,

At my job we trying to make a linux master for deploy it, and we need to custom the default KDE4 user's profil.
We saw that in /etc/skel we can put a profil, but we not sur that it's the better way for us to give a custom profil to user. We want to have the less file to manage.
We try to put some custom configuratin files in the /etc/skel but when we put a folder inside (like the .confi who have the meu preference), when we creat a new user the other defaut folder are not created so did we have to put in the /etc/skel all a defaut usr profil ? or did we have a other way to do it ?
In Kubuntu we have this folder too: /usr/share/kubuntu-default-settings who contain the usual defaut profil do you know in which configuration script it's say to copy it inside de user home folder ?
I was thinking to find it in /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsession but nothing :(

Thank for you answer and sorry for my poor english

KDE stores system wide initial configuration files in distribution specific locations, however it is usually /etc/kde4. This directory mirrors the contents of ~/.kde4, except it only contains files where you are specifying different settings.

You can make settings in those files "immutable" also, which will prevent users from changing them.

You simply need to configure the applications how you want the user to have them, then logout and copy the appropriate contents of ~/.kde4/share/config and ~/.kde4/share/apps

Make sure to only copy those files that are EXPLICTLY needed, as applications may store user specific data in these files.
