i changed the icons by going to system settings > appearance > icons. all the icons, with the exception of the system settings and settings entries in the kickoff application launcher menu, changed.

i then loaded the menu editor to see if i could change the icons manually. but in the general tab for each entry, i noticed that the icon settings are correct.

why might the entries be using the old icons in the launcher menu? is there an icon cache i need to clear?

I also noticed that some icons do not get refreshed. However - as long as they exist in the icon theme - they change evtually on later logins.
So yeah, I guess there is some sort of cache involved that does not get completely refreshed when the icon theme changes.
Maybe there is a command for it? I wonder, but haven't found it myself, so far.

well, i reformatted my / partition the other day (/home is separate) and the icons have been updated. i suspect it must have been a cache issue.

The cache in question is located under /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/kpc

I also have this problem.
I have deleted files in /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/kpc
It helped with most of icons except icons in KDE menu.

The problem is elsewhere.
I noticed that only categories icons in menu are oxygen, programs icons are replaced with buuf icon theme...

Which icon theme do you have selected currently in System Settings > Appearance > Icons?

It is probable that the Buuf theme does not supply the required icons.

Can you please file a bug at bugs.kde.org? It is possible that the Oxygen icons are deliberately referenced.
