The whole look and feel of the new KDE is a BIG change from my old 3.x, but it's lookin' pretty good. I don't really get the whole plasma thing, I haven't figured out what it does yet...
However, when I do revert the app launcher to classic mode, almost all the menu folders are missing. If I go into the menu editor, they're all there, shortcuts inside and all. I can't find how or why everything's hidden, but all I have on there right now is internet, system, utilities, settings, and find.

Am I missing something?

I'll admit, it'll take me forever to figure out how to get all my configurations the way I want 'em (show taskbar on desktop switch, previews in desktop pager, no app-launcher open animation, hide klipper widget, etc), since I am having a really hard time finding all the settings dialogs.
You guys sure did change a lot with 4; I'm sure it'll be really nice once I get used to it, but right now I'm a bit overwhelmed (used 3.x for like 3 years - this is a big change). Any help with the app launcher is appreciated, since I can't really... I can't figure it out right now.

Try opening Konsole and running the following command:

Code: Select all
kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental

The logout and back in again.

Which version of KDE 4 are you using? KDE 4.3 is currently recommended.

Alright...
Code: Select all
kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
was just used and I re-logged, although I'm not entirely sure what that was supposed to do...

Also, I just installed this system, so the KDE version is 4.3.2.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep poking around in the console for a little while to see if I can find an option somewhere.

The Sycoca is a cache of information about Services, ServiceTypes, Protocols, and the like that allows KDE applications to efficiently look up plugins, other applications, etc. It is non-incrementally rebuilt every login and whenever KDE detects changes in the directories or files that are part of it.

It doesn't make sense that the Classic launcher doesn't work yet Kickoff shows the structure correctly.

If you can, please upgrade to 4.3.4.
