KDE on VMware makes irritating sound

I have a Windows 7 system with two displays. In one display I run Windows, in the other a KDE desktop on Debian Lenny running on a VMware player.
Whenever the mouse pointer crosses or gets close to the KDE desktop border I hear a very irritating sound. This happens only when I run KDE and not when I use another window manager such as Gnome or TWM.
It doesn't matter whether the sound card is enabled in the virtual machine or not. The only way to turn off the sound I have found sofar is to mute the sound card on the Windows host.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this irritating sound without turning off the loudspeaker?
Thanks in advance

Given that this occurs whether the virtual machine sound card is enabled or not likely indicates that this sound is being played by VMWare player for some reason.
