Multiple panels in KDE4

Fri Feb 12, 2010 7:51 pm
Where is the panel utilities for KDE4? I need to use the same type as in 3.5
but see no option for these. The panel in 4 is really quite useless
compared to Gnome panels or KDE3 panels.

Vague statements are quite useless, too. What exactly are you trying to do/achieve?

In 3.5 I have a choice of panel styles, I can resize the panel, add whatever
I need to, have a main panel at the top and an external taskbar at the
bottom. I find the KDE4 panel to be not customizable at all, and it does
not allow addition of some items as Seamonkey, find files, ksnapshot.
I can't find these panel options in KDE4. They must be in there someplace-it was one of the best features of 3.5.

Add item:

Image

Resize panel width
Add new panel
Move panel

Note that you need to have your widgets unlocked to see the panel "cashew" (the yellow thingy) and add items to a panel. You can find more HowTos here: http://userbase.kde.org/Plasma/FAQ/HowTo

The only thing that isn't supported in KDE Plasma Desktop is individual styles for panels/widgets. If you want to change style, you can change desktop theme (if you only want to change the panel style you can create a customized theme in System Settings -> Advanced -> Desktop Theme Details).

Thank you. I do have my "widgets" unlocked and will check out the
how to.
All the work on KDE is much appreciated. It is a beautiful desktop.
