Hey all.
I've had a bit of a bet going with my friends that I cannot make my Linux box look like their "Beautiful, sexy Macs" Naturally, I wish to prove them wrong and win that little beer bet ![]() OF course, I'll need your help; I'm using FancyTasks for the Mac like taskbar, Bespin for the look and aurorae for the window decorations. Now, here's my problem; I'm not using Bespin SVN, I'm using the kubuntu karmic package. This is probably why I don't see some of the effects that the kde-look.org presets make. Any help in providing those would be wonderful. Now...aurorae...I'm not entirely sure how to get the entire window to be decorated, and not just the window border and controls... As I said, any help would be appriecated ![]()

The Aurorae theme engine only has the degree of control that KWin itself has. At this time I believe that no QtStyle exists which performs the same actions Aurorae does....

Hm, I think the theme is lacking in features (as is OSX). As such I'd suggest a different one where you can add the button "keep above others" - that way you can watch telly on kaffeine in one corner while browsing or whatever. Show your mates that

Then I'm a tad confused on how screenshots in kde.look.org show me the complete mac feel, complete with gradiant window... :/

Sorry, not sure what a gradient window is. Also not sure how to get KDE to look like OSX. I was just suggesting that rather than saying "We can look the same as you" you show them "We can do better than that"...

The gradient window is a bespin setting - aurora (and other window decoration themes) only changes the appearance of the window title and borders, everything else is up to the widget theme.
In the windows section of the bespin settings dialog, one of the first options should be a combo-box with options like horizontal gradient, vertical gradient and pattern (and options for what kind of pattern that it draws on the window backgrounds like pinstripes, polka dots, grid lines, etc.). By playing around with different color schemes and bespin settings you can get bespin to look exactly like Mac (and there are several bespin presets on kde-look.org already set up to look like Mac that you can download and activate). Alternatively if you want to blow them away by pretty, you could grab bespin SVN and compile it yourself, activating window background transparency and any other settings as you deem appropriate, which will give you a lot more options than what is available from the distro's repos (though last I checked they hadn't added blurring with the transparency, so you will want to be careful not to overdo it).

I'd rather do it as a wham-bam-thank-you-maam kinda job and not have to compile anything

Well, you don't have too - you should be able to get bespin to look like Mac using the repository version of bespin (the window gradients and patterns should be available in the repo version).
If you have any more questions, or when you get the pictures of their faces in awe of the awesomeness which is KDE, post them here ![]()

My next question is: How do I get the 'aqua' like feel of the window title bar without a pattern effect?...I do rather like that, myself.
