How to turn off top Panel autohide

Wed Mar 03, 2010 3:51 pm
Hey all,

I just finished setting up Kubuntu Netbook on my Asus eee pc. This is my first time using KDE & so far I'm loving it. KDE Netbook is by far the most polished netbook OS I have tried yet!

One problem though... the top panel auto-hide feature is driving me nuts! I appreciate the extra screen space but I would much rather give up 22px to have my clock & applications list always visible. Is there anyway to turn off the auto-hide feature like can be done on gnome?

Thanks

You should be able to click on the Panel's cashew, select "More Settings" and change it to Always visible there. Not sure if this can be done in Plasma Netbook though, it definitely can be in Plasma Desktop.

As someone also looking to turn off auto-hide (due to my running a new install of Kubuntu Netbook on a touchscreen tablet, and having to open it back up and use the mouse every time I want to switch apps) I turned auto-hide off both using the cashew and in the config file. Both times, the result was the same. The bar will now stick around, but only when focus is on the "activity", such as search and launch or Page One. As soon as I launch or switch to any other application, it vanishes, but it doesn't seem to be a result of auto-hide, since there is no scrolling off the screen and it will not come back even when I mouse to where it should be.

Has anyone managed to successfully keep the netbook panel in place? It's really the one thing causing a problem so far, but it's a big hindrance.

That definitely seems to be a bug, can you file one at bugs.kde.org?
