I am using Mandriva 2010.1 and I have tried almost everyway I can think of to disable the system from turning off the monitor, but no matter what after about 10 minutes of no use the monitor will turn off.
I have disabled powerdevil, edited the performance profile to not dim the display. I have then reenabled it and set the settings to 99 min (which seemed to help once in the past) and then disable it. on the screen tab I have set all times to 99 min as well and then disabled the power save feature and still the same results. Does anyone else have any suggestions on this? Thanks |

Have you tried with a completely new session after disabling PowerDevil?
Also, which version of KDE ships with 2010.1?

Am not sure what you mean by a new session. I have rebooted multiple times. I am using KDE 4.4

New session means to login after having logged out. Restarting achieves the same goal however.
With PowerDevil disabled, and using a new session, please run the following and post the output here.

It appears PowerDevil has not been disabled....
Open System Settings > Advanced > KDE Daemon. Find PowerDevil and untick it, then logout, and log back in and repost the content of that command again please. Also, once this has been done, does the screen still get turned off?

Okay I went to System Settings>Advanced>Service Manager and unchecked PowerDevil (which is the place I think you wanted me to go) and here is the new loaded modules. Which do not include PowerDevil now.
[mediacenter@localhost Documents]$ qdbus org.kde.kded /kded loadedModules networkwatcher khotkeys kwrited networkstatus solidautoeject nepomuksearchmodule statusnotifierwatcher desktopnotifier phononserver device_automounter kephal ktimezoned dnssdwatcher randrmonitor susefreespacenotifier remotedirnotify [mediacenter@localhost Documents]$ After doing that and rebooting at exactly 10 min it powered off my monitor again. ![]() Funny additional note: The system I am having the prob with is the one I am using KRFB on and when I remoted in it woke it back up but only for a few minutes (Don't know exactly) but it was not even 10 min before it went back to sleep. However if I use the mouse to wake it up it will wait a full 10min. |

Very interesting... since PowerDevil isn't even running anymore.
If you kill "kded4" does the problem occur?

Okay I did a ctrl-esc and killed the kded4 process and made sure it was not running and it still did the same thing.
One thing to note that if I am playing videos using Totem it does not turn off the screen. |

Have you checked the screensaver page in the kde systemsettings (should be in the 'desktop' or 'workspace' section)?
And why are you using an development release. Shouldn't be in that case the cooker mailinglist the right place to address such problems first? Regards, TeaAge

Why am I on the development release? Well first of all it is actually more stable on my system than just 2010. Second, I prefer it. Third, I am a computer tech trying to learn Linux and figure it never hurts to try to fix issues, as that is how you learn. As far as posting on the cooker board, I can do that but since it seemed to me more of a KDE issue I thought I would check here first. |
