Oxygen Effects CPU Usage

Mon Mar 29, 2010 4:39 pm
Hello,

I have a Core 2 Quad and an Nvidia Gtx 275. However, under the fine tuning for the oxygen theme, if I set the effects to anything other than low CPU usage I get stuttering window minimization and a generally sluggish desktop. Does anyone else experience this and if so do they know how to alleviate it? Thanks.

I should also mention I'm running KDE SC 4.4.1 from Kubuntu backports on 9.10.

Can you please file a bug at bugs.kde.org?

I think this may be a Kubuntu related problem. I just installed Chakra which is based on Arch Linux. It has none of the speed problems that Kubuntu has. I can run with high cpu usage animations and not experience the slowdowns that occur in Kubuntu.

Upon further digging in the forum I found that this is a problem related to having animations enabled in the appearance settings.

The link above outlines the details of the bug and how to address it. On both Chakra Linux and Kubuntu following these instructions I can set my CPU usage at Very High and the effects remain smooth.
