There is a conflicting keyboard shortcut with two of the default KDE applications. I frequently remove whitespace (indentation) in kate using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl Shirt I. Having just installed a fresh Kubuntu Lucid, the conflict cropped up again (I had adjusted it in Karmic). If you try to remove indentation with the keyboard shortcut, it won't work while Kopete is running. Kopete has the Global shortcut set to Ctrl Shift I for "Read Message". I know it is a minor issue, but perhaps this should be adjusted.
Also, there is no default keyboard shortcut for Save As. This seems strange since most operating systems use Ctrl Shift S. I accidentally press that shortcutfrequently trying to Save As. If Kopete is open, it triggers Show/Hide Contact List. Seems to me it would be better if this keyboard shortcut were changed to Save As by default, for the sake of intuitive and consistent shortcuts. Just my two cents. |

Default in application shortcuts for standard actions such as Save can be changed in System Settings > Keyboard & Mouse. The same can also be done for application specific global shortcuts, which should disable Kopete's interfering behaviour. If these methods do not appear to have any effect despite appearing to be set correctly, please file a bug at bugs.kde.org.

Thanks, I already removed the shortcuts and added one for Save As. I do think the kopete / kate conflict is a bug, since they are default applications and it interferes with expected behavior. The other one I mentioned because it just makes sense. Perhaps I'll file the former as a bug and mention the latter just in case anyone else agrees. |

I also posted this on Brainstorm to change it... it seems like Kopete has a lot of shortcut conflicts!

Kopete installs a global shortcut
Set_Away_Back=Ctrl+Shift+W This shortcut is not very useful, as it should be set automatically when the session gets locked or the screen saver takes over. It overrides a very useful Konsole shortcut for close-session. |
