I'm using KDE with Compiz on Kubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" (amd64). Almost everything is working, but I can't get panel transparency. There is an old thread describing this issue, but it's already solved and the solution doesn't work for me. So, I thought I would be better off starting a new thread.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to get this working?

Here are some notes:

• nVidia Corporation GT200 [GeForce GTX 260M] (rev a2)
• nVidia proprietary driver v. 195.36.15
• KDE 4.4.2
• Compiz 0.8.4
• Panel transparency does work if I disable Compiz and enable KDE's inbuilt desktop effects.
• I tried using the KDEWM environment variable in my .bashrc file to start with Compiz running, but it doesn't work.
  Here's the script:

• Quitting the plasma-desktop (kquitapp plasma-desktop), then starting it again doesn't give me panel transparency although transparency does work with all other apps.
• I'm using the Plastik window decorations because kde4-window-decorator crashes with Compiz if I don't. (ref: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/572780 (probably unrelated)

I'm also in the same boat. Have been trying to find out a way to get transparency in the panel. I also followed the old thread u have mentioned and didnt work for me either.

Apparently Plasma supports any Compositing window manager, so this should not occur.

@baucha: Are you also using KDE 4.4.2, with Compiz 0.8.4 on Kubuntu 10.04?

yes i'm also using compiz 0.8.4 on kubuntu 10.04 but with kde 4.4.3
