I have four desktop/workspaces setup with unique wallpaper on each one. When I reboot, these designated wallpapers are deleted and replaced by other wallpapers that I did not select. Why is that? And how can I fix it so the wallpapers that I specify will be retained when I reboot?

Which version of KDE are you using? In this case, you are likely using the "Activities" feature, bound to virtual desktops, which prior to KDE 4.5, didn't work too well...

I don't know for certain which version of KDE I have, and I don't know how to determine exactly which version it is; but I think it is 4.4-(something).

It is the most current version included in the PCLinuxOS 10.1 installation and there is no approved update yet in the Synaptic repository.

in a kde4 app click help -> "about kde" and there will be a line "platform version" 2nd from top
