Dear all,
Would you have any suggestions on approaching the following problem? I would like to set up the keyboard shortcuts to use the Hyper modifier, which I put in place of caps lock: andrew@o:~$ xmodmap xmodmap: up to 3 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses): shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e) lock control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69) mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x6c), Meta_L (0xcd) mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d) mod3 Hyper_L (0x42), Hyper_L (0xcf) mod4 Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce) mod5 ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb) This setup works smoothly for emacs and other contexts, and is loaded automatically on start-up. Yet when I try to create a shortcut in one of the KDE menus (System Settings, Kate, etc.) the caps key is not recognized as a modifier, I get garbage in the "shortcut" button, and it stops the input before I can press another key. In Kate, there is usually an imminent crash after this. The Global Shortcuts window survives until I try to reassign this shortcut. I really need to get Hyper to work, since I use it for everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Andrew |

This should definitely not occur, and likely highlights a bug within the core KDE libraries or Qt, which are responsible for handling shortcuts. Please install debugging symbols, generate a backtrace and file a bug report at bugs.kde.org attaching the backtrace.
