I have just installed KDE 4.5, and I still have a few niggles to work out.

One of these is that my desktop effects seem to always be disabled at startup, and it is very nnoying having to turn them back on every time manually.

Hi,

just a few thoughts to get started. As a fellow Archer I can ask: have you checked logs for enlightening info? My guess would be that video card and driver do not work together perfectly. Is that something you have looked into? Are you using an xorg.conf?

I have the same problem on my netbook with Intel GMA 950 but not on my desktop with a Nvidia-card. I'll post back if I find out anything more.

I disabled functionality checks after reading this:

That seems to do the trick
