Could anyone tell me how can i enable the tooltips in Dolphin that for some mysterious reason has disappeared?
Thanks. |

Can you try disabling thumbnails?

Disabled Thumbnails in Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> General -> Previews
No effect, it's the same. Do i need Strigi or Nepomuk for this? |

Not completely sure, but it could be the metadata that cases the problem - see the comments in http://dot.kde.org/2010/08/31/kde-releases-451 for more information.

But i've never experienced crashes in Dolphin and the information is showed in the information panel (very very basic information but well that's another issue), the only problem is with the tooltips, they just don't work ^^"
I've just tried erasing all Dolphin configuration to no avail, maybe i'll try with a new user... |

Nothing.
With a new user i just enable "show tooltips" (with preview disabled by default) and the same behavior, a waiting cursor and no tooltip is shown. |

The same for kde-4.6.4 without nepomuk/semantic-desktop.
At least in 4.4.4 I had type, size, modified/accessed times, thumbnails for images, but now in 4.6.4 nothing, just the busy cursor. In file/folder properties -> Information -> Configure -> Select which data should be shown is empty. |

Do you still have Strigi being installed? Strigi is very often listed as a component of the semantic desktop (when it isn't, it is just a data extractor - which is used by Dolphin among others)

Yes, I have it, it's a kdelibs dependency in Gentoo. Do I have to run it? |

As long as Strigi (and it's associated stream plugins) are installed it should work fine.
If you run Dolphin from the terminal, do you get any error messages which may indicate the problem?

Strigi is located in kdesupport I believe. Might be best to examine the output of Dolphin when running it in Konsole to see if it outputs any messages that indicate why it doesn't work.

app-misc/strigi content
For dolphin I only get: dolphin(8917): Cannot open "/Europe/Bucharest" when I start it, and dolphin(8917)/kdecore (KConfigSkeleton) KCoreConfigSkeleton::writeConfig: when I close it. |
