I would like to change default single click used in sidebar panels (KDE apps such as Kate and Amarok) to double click.

Example:

Kate - when i click (one time) on filename file editor open file...

Amarok - when i click (one time) on the directory name, amarok open directory and show subdirs or files...

I wish to set sidebar panel that i need to click two times to open files od directories and single click is only selecting file/dir name.

It's not in the same "double click" which i can setup in KDE preferences. When i done that KDE works correctly with double clicking but applications sidebar "filesystem view" use still single clicking on the list...

Screenshot of Kate and sidebar on the left:

and screencast recorded by xvidcap with filesystem view with single click: open mpeg (700kb)

Please help me to set double click :)

I think that this is not possible. The sidebar very similar to a tab widget. But you have to click on tabs only one. AFAIK to achieve this, some parts of the kdeui API has to be changed. But it is very uncommon to doubleclick on tabs.

Cheers, m.

I am assuming you have checked in System Settings > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse and have it set to double click? that setting should be respected KDE-wide.

@msoeken: I don't think he meant double click on the tabs ( that would defeat the purpose of tabs ). i think he meant like inside the tabs themselves ( ie. the listing of folders/files )

I have set: System Settings > Keyboard & Mouse > Mouse > double click but it doesn't solved problem.

@msoeken: in the same apps in KDE 3.x you have to click on tabs only one time too but you have to click two times on sidebar file/dir list ... so problem doesn't exists in older KDE3 but only in KDE4.

Maybe this is a bug of KDE/sidebar and this setting should be respected KDE-wide but it isn't.

That's great.

I'll update KDE to 4.2 when it will be in stable version...

PS. I found better editor than Kate, it is Geany (http://www.geany.org)

Could you list some features from Geany that you miss in kate?

Off-topic: Auto-Code completion

I don't know right word for that, but let's choose "code snippets" and
or code completion/sugestion of php, html, css, java and php extensions like mysqli etc. I miss this feature in Kate or I don't know how to enable it.

In Geany you just need one text file that decribes commands of the language and than you can use ALT+spacebar to list known methods etc.

Geany has got quite big list of supported languages... It is probably not so powerful like KDevelop3 and C++.

Really good editor for HTML/PHP/CSS coding.

I prefer KDE apps, so I would love to see support of this in Kate.

I agree with @msoeken about geany features.

Kate should have "symbols" sidebar too.

In geany's symbols sidebar we can fast&easy view object methods and attributes list.

There is one more feature from gphpedit which is great - sidebar with other objects names which i use in my class, using this sidebar we can open object source files and edit it.

So if KATE would have:
- symbols sidebar
- related objects sidebar
- php code snippets
it would be best php editor for me :)
