Tab position: top, bottom, side (east, west, etc)?

I was wondering if it were possible to set globally the tab bar for Qt/KDE apps (e.g. Dolphin) to appear on the side rather than top or bottom. I have much more horizontal screen space than vertical, so it would be nice to be able to make better use of it.
